The fire started in a field west of a built-up area and was carried by the wind to a yard full of old cars and scrap metal.

The fire was almost under control when I arrived, but the fire crew was still under immense tension, doing everything possible to prevent it from reigniting and to save the house. They didn’t know if some of those cars still had fuel in their tanks.

At least two cisterns were used to supply water to the fire brigade, in addition to the local water supply, and many volunteers ran around using any means available to keep the fire from reaching their houses.
